In legend, the Irish hero "Conn of the Hundred Battles" arrives at a castle in the Otherworld after losing his way in a mist.
There he is met by the Celtic god Lugh, and a beautiful girl. She fills a golden cup with mead and asks:
"To whom shall this cup be given?"
To which the god replies:
"Serve it to Conn of the Hundred Battles."
The girl repeatedly refills the hero's cup, and asks the same question, whilst the god names each of the kings who shall be descended from Conn.
Suddenly Lugh, the girl and the castle all disappear, leaving Conn with the golden cup.
