In Celtic myth the moon was strongly associated with goddesses, and many of their festivals were celebrated at the full moon.
A darker side to pre-Christian beliefs was the legend of the Wild Hunt. This was a supernatural hunt that crossed the night sky and would strike dead anyone who was unfortunate enough to witness it, or perhaps even worse: they would be kidnapped and taken to the Otherworld.
